How to make a QR code that starts a WhatsApp chat
WhatsApp has a 'click to chat' link format that opens a new chat with your number — no need for the person to save your contact first. Turn that link into a QR code and anyone can message you by scanning.
Build your click-to-chat link
- Use the format https://wa.me/<number>, where <number> is your full phone number in international format with no plus sign, spaces, or dashes (for example wa.me/14155551234).
- Optionally add a pre-filled message: https://wa.me/<number>?text=Hi (spaces become %20).
- Open the link once yourself to confirm it starts a chat with the right number.
Make the code
- Open Scan QR Code Master, choose Create, and pick the website/URL type.
- Paste your wa.me link and generate the code.
- Add it to a flyer, receipt, or storefront so customers can reach you in a tap.
FAQ
- Do people need my number saved to message me?
- No. A wa.me link opens a chat with your number directly, so scanning the code lets someone message you without adding you as a contact first.
