How to make a QR code with a logo in the middle
You've seen QR codes with a logo in the middle — that's possible because QR codes have built-in error correction that lets a scanner recover data hidden behind the logo. The trick is not to cover too much.
Do it safely
- Generate the code at a high error-correction level so more of it can be obscured (see our error-correction guide).
- Keep the logo small — cover no more than the center, roughly under a third of the code, and leave the three corner squares fully visible.
- Place the logo centered with a little clear padding around it.
- Test it thoroughly with several phones before you use it.
What to avoid
- Covering a corner finder pattern — that stops the code scanning entirely.
- A logo so large it swallows too much data even for high error correction.
- Low contrast between the code and its background around the logo.
FAQ
- Why can a logo sit on a QR code without breaking it?
- Because of error correction — redundant data that lets a scanner rebuild the part the logo covers, up to roughly 30% at the highest level. Keep the logo small and the corners clear, and always test.
